PHOTOGRAPHER ZHONG LIN'S 365 DAY PORTRAIT CHALLENGE
Taiwan-based photographer Zhong Lin, is day 89 into her ‘365 day portrait challenge’. A project born during lockdown, to show unique creation - despite difficult and un-motivating circumstances. Each day she shares a new portrait, each one a different concept that she creates with the idea of having ‘no limits’ or boundaries.
Having immersed herself in photography following an obsession with analogue black and white negatives, she has been published in the likes of Oyster, Fucking Young, C-Heads, I-D, and shot some incredible global campaigns.
If you’re a creative and have been feeling a lack of inspiration to create, this series is for you.
f you’re not a creative and have just been feeling un-inspired since Covid hit, this series s also for you.
“Like how we start from nothing, nothing starts out big but everything starts out promising.
In the following 365 days I will share a new visual created by me every day.
I want to rediscover what it means to start from nothing.
No Limits, No Boundaries and No Definition.
I have learnt that there is no right or wrong in creativity and with this vision I invite you to take on this journey with me to title what is yet to be named.
Throughout this project I will be stretching beyond borders, posting different angles and perspectives and it will be an attempt to channel my creatives.
Since all possibilities are mine to find out and yours to relate, I will be laying my work in your hands and hoping my perspective would become yours / ours.
Much like every visual emerges from nothing, this project may become something limitless for everything that we hope for.”(From Zhong’s instagram)
An incredibly inspiring series, with each new daily piece completely unique to previous ones, the photographer mentioned to I-D in a recent interview that she’d be branching outside of ‘photography’ for the series, so perhaps we’ll be seeing videos, graphics, art … who knows.
