INTERVIEW: WENZDAY
When you step into her world, every day is Wenzday. Classically trained singer, DJ, producer, co-founder of 40oz Cult, the creator behind ‘Heartbreak House’, when you step into her world - every day is Wenzday.
Life motto or a quote that you live by?
If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will.
An unusual talent that you have?
I can do pretty perfect AND even winged eyeliner in one take
Worst thing about humanity?
Selfishness and greed
How did you get into music?
My parents. Both of them have insane taste in music and were so supportive of me being interested in the creative arts from a young age. They put me in church choir in 1st grade and I did musical theatre all the way thru high school. Learning about music theory, how to sing properly, and even playing piano (I definitely could have practiced more) created a foundation that has really helped me in my electronic production now.
How have you been keeping yourself busy during Covid?
Fortunately, I live with my brother Tanner (Dack Janiels) and we share a studio together, so these past couple months we have continued to focus on 40oz Cult and our music. We just dropped our collab "Dissociation Sequence" that we have been teasing for the past year on the label and I am actually the label manager for 40oz Cult so during this time, I have put a ton of effort into signing new acts and helping to get those releases the exposure they deserve. We threw a label livestream takeover in June in partnership with Dubstep UNK at Social Sanctuary in SoCal and we also just dropped our Fall 2020 catalogue on the merch side. Gearing up for that roll out took some time but we are so excited and fortunate that even during COVID the support for us/40oz has been unwavering and we really appreciate it!
If you weren't an artist, what would you be doing?
I'd definitely be an author. Before I fell in love with music, I used to tell my mom I wanted to be Beatrix Potter when I grew up.
Favourite fictional character?
Wednesday Addams of course! She's the definition of a badass.
Favourite day of the week?
Everyday is Wenzday.
If you could travel in time, would you go backwards or forward?
Definitely backwards. I am so inspired by different eras like the 60s and 70s when it comes to music and fashion. BUT, when it comes to my life, I take every day one step at a time because things can change in an instant, so I think being able to see the future would ruin things for me.
