INTERVIEW: SULLIVAN KING
Introducing: Sullivan King.
Best known for his unique fusion of heavy metal and electronic music in his production, his live guitar solos and singing at shows, and most recently, his passionate hate for mangoes. Sullivan has had a whirlwind last 12 months - a tour with Excision, his headline ‘Thankyou For Raging’ Tour, releasing his album ‘Show Some Teeth’, missing his first show because of mangoes…
And also today releasing his highly anticipated remix of Kayzo x Our Last Night:
What’s the most most metal and least metal thing you’ve ever done?
Most metal: at Moonrise Festival 2018 I dislocated my shoulder on the first song of a set which I had never done before. I tried to DJ with it but my hand literally went numb and I couldn’t move my fingers, so I ended up relocating it back in place myself and then playing the rest fo the set.
Least metal: was that I dislocated it by throwing a guitar pick lol
What’s something you’re secretly really good at outside of music?
I’d say cooking honestly! I always wanted to and still want to open restaurants so whenever I have free time I’m usually cooking and learning new things in the kitchen.
Weirdest thing a fan has ever said or given to you?
Haven’t had any insanely weird things, it’s probably more fans that try to get me to leave my wife/tell her they’re gonna steal me from her. some wild ones out there.
If you could contact yourself five years ago, what would you say?
Stay working on your shit. don’t over think so much and worry about what everyone else is dong and what’s popping off, just do your thing.
Describe your music using a game title:
Destiny
Would you rather be eaten by a crocodile or a snake?
Fuck both of those because being attacked by a croc or a gator is literally my biggest/least desired way to go. also fuck snakes this question sucks
Biggest music influences?
Billy Joel, Van Halen, Avenged Sevenfold, Space Laces, Bullet For My Valentine, Metallica
What would your autobiography be called?
‘Professional Shitshow’
would you rather have no taste buds or be colour blind?
Colour blind for sure, I cook and eat too much to give that up.
Longest time you’ve spent on a project?
LOL all the ones that are still not finished…
Funnily enough, Wake Up is kiiiind of a long one? Not really, but the first few lines of the song were lyrics from an idea I had in like 2016. There are a couple songs though that have riffs from when I was like 17-18 and they came out in 2017 on the House Of Wolves EP. The riff for “Don’t Care” was like 5-6 years old.
If you could jam with one person (living or dead) for a day, who would you choose?
Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, no question.
