INTERVIEW: SYN
Introducing: Syn, the Montreal-based producer, carving the way with his ‘new world’ sound - a fusion of heavy bass and metal. He released a killer EP ‘New Rave PT 2” earlier this year, and last week followed it up with a new single ‘Voices’ - feat Josh Rubin.
Last song you listened to?
Killpop - Slipknot
This song is about the love/hate relationship between the artist and the music industry, which is very relatable for a lot of us. If I had to resume this song in a single quote: 'Be careful doing what you love, because sometimes it will turn on youʼ.
If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be and why?
Probably the Hulk so I can smash shit and scream at trees and no one can give me shit for it because i would just be « myself ».
Favourite thing about what you do?
Simply creating something from scratch. Thereʼs something very soothing about sitting down, creating sounds, putting them together piece by piece like a puzzle, and seeing a song come together. Itʼs obviously not always a smooth process, but when you come up with something you truly enjoy, itʼs the best feeling in the world.
Least favourite thing about what you do?
Social media. Very detrimental to my mental health.
Would you rather go blind, or lose all your memories?
Blind because it would break my momʼs heart if I didnʼt remember her.
What is the best vegetable and why?
I have a deep hatred towards cucumbers so definitely NOT them. Probably green beans.
If you weren't a music producer/DJ, what would you be doing with your life?
Thatʼs a tough one. I would probably be doing sound design for video games.
