WORDS WITH GRABBITZ, AND HIS NEW COLLABORATION WITH REZZ

WORDS WITH GRABBITZ, AND HIS NEW COLLABORATION WITH REZZ

Nick Chiari, aka Grabbitz, the singer / songwriter / DJ / producer / legend, that we just had the absolute of pleasure of interviewing. This is his third release for 2020, having so far released his single ‘Where The End Begins’, as well as a collaboration with 3LAU and Shaun Frank ‘At Night’.

He’s just released his latest single ‘Someone Else’ - if there’s one thing the world needed right now, it’s a collaboration of Rezz x Grabbitz. It’s an electronic, dark yet kind of pop hybrid song, that will hit home for many with lyrics about seeing another side to somebody, a person you don’t recognise - someone else.

Last text you sent:

"LUCIII YOU GOT SOME SPLAINING TO DO" ----- it was to you. You had no idea what I was talking about.

Three studio essentials:

joint

water

pen&pad

2020 - what’s on?

Well, right now we are currently stuck in our homes, in quarantine. Didn't see this one coming lol. I'm still optimistic about toughing thru it and getting back up to speed though. That being said, on the music side I have loads of collaborations with dope artists. By the time this comes out, my song "Someone Else" with Rezz will be out, which we've been excited about for a minute. Tons of Grabbitz solo records. Hopefully will be able to get back on the road as soon as possible, because IRL is where I thrive.

Favourite song right now?

"Together" - Nine Inch Nails

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?

I wish there were bolder risks being taken on artists for what they are, not for what outside factors expect them to be. You can exploit the hell out of me, I don't care, just don't exploit something I'm not.

What’s your typical day like?

It varies. My ideal day is wake up, coffee, exercise, studio, eat, bed. Other things like styling, photoshoots, vids, social media, business, meetings, etc, have to be sprinkled in. If I can keep my days artistic and creative i am happy.

If you could collaborate with anyone?

I mean, the list is vast. To name a few: Trent Reznor, Skrill, Timbaland, Jon Hopkins, Hannah Reid, Eddie Vedder

Your biggest inspiration?

My inspirations fall into two categories. Art and people.

Art inspires me beyond words. Music, visual, written, what have you. I find myself connecting heavily with art all the time, and it makes up the amalgamation of what kind of art I create.

The people that inspire me are those who are aspiring to be, or are already successful in multiple creative avenues. Trent doing NIN and scoring films. Donald Glover doing Childish Gambino, and writing/acting in his own series. YOU for pursuing music and running a fashion line. I want to be involved in film someday. Acting, writing, scoring.

What un-inspires you?

Negativity. We see it everywhere. There are plenty of people out there that cannot grasp what it is to have extraordinary aspirations, and create art for a living. So they shoot you down, sometimes not directly, but bad energy is bad energy. Some people will try to stifle creative output, which is the metaphorical death of the artist.  I've done my best to purge those out of my life that bring this kind of thinking to the table. That's all you can do to combat it.

What would your last words be?

We'll meet again.

Would you rather: be free, or totally safe?

I'd rather be totally free.

Would you rather know HOW you would die, or WHEN?

I guess how, on the off chance there are some preventative measures I can take now to prolong it. I'm not afraid of the other side, but this life is all I know for sure, and I really like it right now. Ups, downs, and all.
