CAT DEALERS interview: from 'cat house' to their debut Australia tour

CAT DEALERS interview: from 'cat house' to their debut Australia tour

The Brazilian brother duo ‘Cat Dealers’ (being named so because they actually have NINE cats at home due to their mother rescuing street cats in Rio De Janeiro - fun fact) had a pretty wild 2018, bringing their signature ‘cat house’ sound to venues and festivals all over the world - including Lollapalooza in Brazil and Ultra in Mexico. Having toured with Shakira, racked up millions of plays on Spotify/Soundcloud, signed with Sony in Brasil, the brothers have been absolutely killing it on a global scale, and finally brought their cat sound to Australia in December. We thought we’d have a brief chat with them about their debut tour in Australia, share some crazy snaps of their show in Melbourne (at Secret Garden) and see what’s in store for the boys for 2019!

What got you guys into music?

We both always liked music, I (Pedro) have played the drums since 2002 and Lugui has been into electronic music since ever hahah! At some point, we were both really interested in producing and studying music, so that’s how we started the project.

What would your dream gig be?

Probably the greatest festivals out there haha, but not only festivals! Selling out a ‘Cat Dealers’ show at the biggest venues in the world is what we look forward the most - venues like Madison Square Garden in NY for example.

What do you guys love to do for some down-time/relaxing/for fun when you're not on the road or in the studio?

Since we’re constantly traveling, we really enjoy spending time with our family and friends. We miss them a lot during our tours. We also like playing online games and watching some series to relax. And of course, since we are from Rio de Janeiro, we love going to the beach.

How would you describe the 'Cat Dealers' sound?

We don't even know how to describe it hahaha, that's why we called it ‘Cat House’, because it was something in-between many styles. I would say it is a sound with influences from all kind of tracks we enjoy listening to.

Favourite song of all time?  Also what's your favourite Cat Dealers release?

All time would be ‘Foo Fighters - Stranger Things Have Happened’, and for Cat Dealers - ‘Your Body’ for sure, because of all the meaning it has for us.

What did you think of your first time here in Australia + the tour?

We loved Australia! It was our first time there and we were really excited because we always wanted to come to Australia! We loved the vibe from the people and the places we visited, Byron Bay just became one of our favourite places haha! There’s so many things we liked, but the gigs were probably our favourite part. The crowd was amazing, the vibe was perfect, we’ll surely remember it forever!

What’s in store for 2019?

We have a lot planned for this year. We’ll continue touring and we’re already working on some new songs, so stay tuned because we’re preparing some really special things that are coming. Hope to see you guys in your beautiful country again soon!
