INTERVIEW: CLARA FABLE
Ever wondered what would happen if you dropped a camp, bubblegum pop star onto the set of a gory horror film? Well, Clara Fable may just be the answer to that question.
Our new favourite pop-horror hybrid manages to balance all the pop sensibilities you want in 2020 with an underground edge that will have you hooked on the first listen.
“Cherry Ripe is a super campy pop journey down queer girl lane!
It's about sexual exploration and discovering the side of sexuality you never thought you'd enjoy so much and celebrating every inch of it.”
What inspired the video?
The video was inspired by my all time favourite horror films, aesthetics and 40's classics.
Rocky Horror, Carrie, drag, cheesy slasher films, sex and fashion. There's elements of the then and now all rolled into one.
(you might even spot a familiar visual pop reference on my gorgeous love interest)
What do you want people to feel when they listen to Cherry Ripe?
I want people to feel empowered when they hear this track. As corny as it sounds, I want them to dance and sing like no ones watching! The song to blast in your car with windows rolled down.
Best ice-cream flavour?
Mint Chocolate chip, duh!
Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes! ghosts are the treasures of great pasts. You don't just learn from the living..
Last dream you had?
The last dream i had was actually SO insane.. I was in this crazy castle, somewhere elaborate with an unusual TikTok creator haha! My teeth had all fallen out and i woke up in a PANIC. Most of my dreams usually inspire my writing and visuals but this one might have to pass... haha!
If a vampire offered to bite you, would you say yes?
HOW COULD I SAY NO!?
The Clara Fable character is a modern embodiment of a vampire - sneaking around finding ways to survive in 2020 with (obviously) not a lack of blood supply.
It's funny because the whole vampire thing stems from my childhood FOR SURE. I’m so pale in complexion and everyone in school would tease me.. I’d back it up by telling them I was a vampire and would sparkle in the sunlight (god damn Twilight)
If you had a twin, who would be the evil one?
Ooooooooo, define evil..?
I would for sure be the good one, as much as I’d like to be the badass - I’m more of a do-good kinda gal than an evil one.
Having an evil sidekick as my twin would therefore mean I get to vicariously live through their actions, BINGO!
If you were a drink what would you be?
An espresso martini - delicious and full of anxiety hah!
First thing you'd do in a zombie apocalypse?
Find a cute zombie to scratch me. If you can't beat em' - join em'!
What's next?
I'm currently working on the album and lengthy visual for next year. Without revealing too much, it's going to be an extension of the character and the journey. Moving her way through human interactions and relationships as you would see in any short film, movie.
I've thoroughly enjoyed creating a world for listeners to escape to when they hear my music and watch my visuals. I want to really smooth out what that looks like and how it will develop into a live show.
I've been collaborating with some incredible Australian artists and producers and hope to continue to do so until the story is complete.
